Timer — Work Time Tracking

Timer — Work Time Tracking

The timer is the core feature of Working Timer. You'll find it on the Dashboard as a large circular button.

Starting and Stopping

  1. Tap Start to begin tracking your work time. A circular progress ring fills as you work toward your daily target.
  2. Tap Pause to take a break. Break time is tracked separately and shown alongside your worked hours.
  3. Tap Resume to continue working after your break.
  4. Tap Stop to end your shift. The record is saved automatically with your clock-in time, clock-out time, and total break duration.

After stopping the timer, the app can optionally open the record edit form so you can add a project, activity, or note before saving.

Timer Modes

  • Count-up mode (default) — the timer starts at 0:00 and counts upward. The progress ring shows how much of your daily target you've completed.
  • Countdown mode — the timer starts at your configured daily work hours and counts down to 0:00. Enable this in Timer Settings.

Background Tracking

The timer continues running when you leave the app or lock your phone. On iOS, you can also enable:

  • Dynamic Island display — see your running timer in the Dynamic Island
  • Lock Screen counter — view elapsed time directly on your Lock Screen

Break Handling

You can configure how breaks are recorded:

  • Break as part of the record — break duration is stored as a field on the work record (default)
  • Break as a separate record — each break creates its own work record entry, useful if you need to track individual breaks

What Happens When You Stop

When you stop the timer, Working Timer automatically:

  • Calculates your total worked hours (minus breaks)
  • Determines overtime (hours beyond your daily target)
  • Calculates earnings if you have an hourly rate configured
  • Records GPS coordinates if location tracking is enabled
  • Syncs the record to the cloud (if signed in)

Tip: In Timer Settings you can enable "Show edit form after counting" to review and adjust the record before it's saved — for example, to assign a project or add a note.
