Kiosk Mode (Terminal)

Kiosk Mode (Terminal)

Kiosk mode transforms Working Timer into a shared punch clock terminal — ideal for workplaces where multiple employees use a single tablet or device to clock in and out.

How It Works

When kiosk mode is enabled, the app shows a simplified interface:

  1. Profile grid — all profiles are displayed as cards, each showing the employee's name and current status (clocked in, on break, or available)
  2. PIN entry — tap a profile to enter your personal 6-digit PIN
  3. Action panel — after authentication, choose an action: punch in, punch out, start break, end break, or record a leave type
  4. Confirmation — the action is confirmed on screen and auto-dismisses after a few seconds

Setting Up Kiosk Mode

  1. Go to Terminal Mode from the side menu.
  2. Enable Soft Kiosk — this activates the kiosk interface.
  3. Set an Admin PIN — this PIN is required to exit kiosk mode or access settings.
  4. Configure profile PINs — each employee profile needs its own 6-digit PIN for secure access.
  5. Optionally configure which leave types are available in the kiosk (vacation, sick day, business trip, etc.).

Profile Status Display

Each profile card shows real-time status:

  • Green — currently clocked in, with elapsed work time displayed
  • Yellow — on break, with break duration shown
  • Gray — available (not clocked in)

A live clock is displayed at the top of the screen.

Available Actions

After entering your PIN, you can:

  • Clock in — start your work day
  • Clock out — end your work day
  • Start break — pause work for a break
  • End break — resume work after a break
  • Record leave — select from available leave types (vacation, sick day, doctor visit, business trip, etc.)

Security

  • Per-profile PINs — each employee has their own 6-digit PIN
  • Admin PIN — required to exit kiosk mode or change settings
  • Brute-force protection — after 5 failed PIN attempts, the profile is locked out for 30 seconds
  • Inactivity timeout — the screen returns to the profile grid after 30 seconds of inactivity
  • Restricted navigation — in kiosk mode, users cannot access the side menu, settings, or edit records

Tip: Mount a tablet at your workplace entrance and enable kiosk mode for a simple, secure time clock that all employees can use.
